Another Successful Roast

Weighing in at 178 pounds, the 2015 “mascot” of the Grace Episcopal Church Pig Roast was one of our best. As chief roaster Dan Amundson said, “She came out well cooked, flavored, and unburned — and the crowd at up almost every bit of pig we had.” After surviving threats of rain (and pouring rain) in some past years, we were glad to have the weather cooperate for both the overnight cookout and the Saturday picnic.

The Men’s Group would like to thank everyone who helped plan and organize the annual event — everyone who helped cook, serve, clean, and entertain our guests. This year we want to extend a special thank you to the boys of the youth group, who helped:

  • dig the hole
  • build the fire pit
  • deliver the pig
  • flip and mop the pig throughout the night and early morning
  • set up the outdoor movie
  • peel potatoes and do other prep

Cooking and serving a pig (and all the fixings) takes a village, and with the extended involvement of the Men’s Group and their families, the event is getting bigger and better each year. This time, we not only covered our costs through voluntary donations, but raised several hundred dollars that will support the homeless ministries at Grace.

To everyone who attended, please spread the word if you had a good time. We want this event to bring together the Grace community, the Silver Spring community, and beyond. All are welcome.
